The People’s Food Summit

This weekend, Kitty Seelig, our Executive Director, had the privilege of attending The People’s Food Summit at Riverside Park. She participated in a strategic planning session with people divided into various topic areas. Subjects covered included: Urban Agriculture, Transportation, Health and Nutrition, Alternatives to Retail Supermarkets, and Hunger Relief. Kitty participated in the area of Hunger Relief. This was the question posed to the group:

Kitty enjoyed hearing the many ideas that people put forward as ways to help Indy’s hunger problems. Mayor Joe Hogsett, Ted Grain of the Local Initiative Support Corp, and Shellye Settles, from the City of Indianapolis spoke during the summit. The group will reconvene on July 11th to develop a plan for hunger relief. Helpings of Hope is glad to be playing a leading role in addressing some of the present food insecurity and food desert concerns and needs in the Indianapolis area.
